Backward Bifurcation Analysis of Epidemic Model with Partial Immunity

چکیده
This paper presents a two stage SIS epidemic model in animal population with bovine tuberculosis (BTB) in African buffalo as a guiding example. The proposed model is rigorously analyzed. The analysis reveals that the model exhibits the phenomenon of backward bifurcation, where a stable disease-free equilibrium (DFE) coexists with a stable endemic equilibrium (EE) when the associated reproduction number (Rv) is less than unity. It is shown under two special cases of the presented model, that this phenomenon of backward bifurcation does not arise depending on vaccination coverage and efficacy of vaccine. Numerical simulations of the model show that, the use of an imperfect vaccine can lead to effective control of the disease if the vaccination coverage and the efficacy of vaccine are high enough.

Stability and Bifurcation of an SIS Epidemic Model with Saturated Incidence Rate and Treatment Function
In this paper an SIS epidemic model with saturated incidence rate and treatment func- tion is proposed and studied. The existence of all feasible equilibrium points is discussed. The local stability conditions of the disease free equilibrium point and endemic equilibrium point are established with the help of basic reproduction number. However the global stabili- ty conditions of these eq...
متن کاملBifurcation and Sensitivity Analysis of Immunity Duration in an Epidemic Model
Most disease transmission models assume no immunity or permanent immunity for simplicity, however, hosts have temporary immunity for most diseases. In this note we find that the immunity duration is actually the most sensitive parameter for dynamics of disease transmission. We provide numerical schemes to sketch Hopf bifurcations (forward or backward), sensitivity surfaces, periodicity diagrams...
متن کاملA bifurcation study on epidemic models with density-dependent treatments
Numerically studies have shown that the bi-stability and backward bifurcation are not automatically connected in epidemic models. In fact, when a backward bifurcation occurs, the disease-free equilibrium may be globally stable or it may support to a stable limit cycle. In this paper, a continuous epidemic model that incorporates density-dependent treatments is analyzed. It is shown that it supp...
متن کاملAn Epidemiology Model That Includes a Leaky Vaccine with a General Waning Function
Vaccination that gives partial protection for both newborns and susceptibles is included in a transmission model for a disease that confers no immunity. A general form of the vaccine waning function is assumed, and the interplay of this together with the vaccine efficacy and vaccination rates is discussed. The integro-differential system describing the model is studied for a constant vaccine wa...
متن کاملOn the study of an SEIV epidemic model concerning vaccination and vertical transmission
In this work, we study an epidemic model with vaccination and vertical transmission. We get the basic reproduction number R0 of the system and carry out a bifurcation analysis and obtain the conditions ensuring that the system exhibits backward bifurcation.
